Detecting High Cholesterol with the CT Angiography

When you think about fun kinds of foods to eat, what kinds of foods come to mind? Well, that will depend on whether or not you are a health food fanatic to begin with. However, one of the kinds of foods that is considered to be delicious and fun to eat is pizza. Pizza is fine when eaten in moderation, but the truth is that it is full of fat, and eating fatty food can lead to a myriad of different health problems.

One of these health problems is high cholesterol, so a CT angiography might need to be done to check the affect that high cholesterol has had on the body. The CT angiography procedure involves advanced scanning technology to find out if there are any irregularities present in the blood vessels, such as blood clots or aneurysms.

When a person has high cholesterol, it is usually because the body has too much fat in its arteries. This creates blood pressure problems, and in turn affects circulation. The CT angiography scan is designed to detect these problems so that the right treatment can be administered to correct the problem as soon as possible.

The CT angiography scan itself takes place in an outpatient facility. The patient will need to arrive wearing comfortable, metal free clothing. A contrast material might be given to the patient via intravenous to enhance the blood vessels that are being checked. The scan itself takes about a minute to complete, after which the patient can usually resume regular activities.
